GREENSBORO, NC — Super 32 delivered as expected with battles all day between ranked opponents, complete with upsets and stellar performances. In all, there were 62 ranked girls on the mat from AWW’s TOP25 poll that came out last week, along with multiple other USAW All-Americans and age level stars just coming on the scene.

Young talent was on display as 97-pound freshman Alex Szkotnicki of Maryland, just coming off a gold medal performance at the Vorobyeva Cup in Russia, had a dominant finals victory over #4 ranked senior Jessica Corredor of Florida. At 103, freshman Olivia Messerly made the finals, losing a 4-3 scrap to All-American Chloe Ayres, a junior from New Jersey. And more young blood made the finals at 123, as freshman Jaclyn Dehney of New Hampshire pulled an upset win over #3 ranked Leilah Castro on her way to the finals, where she fell to California’s Katie Gomez. Going into Super 32, Szkotnicki was ranked #6 in our AWW poll at 100, Messerly was ranked #12 at 106, and Dehney was #13 at 123.

In the 130-pound finals, #3 ranked Louisa Schwab pulled the upset win, a nailbiting 5-4 victory over #1 ranked Cadet Worlds silver medalist Skylar Hattendorf 5-4. Schwab hit several slick slide-by’s in the 1st period to go up 3-0 at the break. Hattendorf threw her for 4 points early in the second, but Schwab found one more takedown to win the title.

Young Wyoming Sem star Kennedy Blades did Kennedy Blades things, cruising to a 10-0 in the finals over #4 ranked Jewel Gonzalez of New Jersey. Blades outscored her opponents in the tournament 30-0. 139-pound Cheyenne Bowman of California, ranked #1 in AWW national rankings coming into the tournament, also had a dominating performance, outscoring her opponents 38-3 in the contest, capping it off with a convincing 10-0 in the finals over Viktorya Torres of Washington in what was a #1 vs. #2 matchup.

Other Super 32 champs included Samara Chavez of Texas at 115, Katie Gomez of California at 115, Wyoming Sem’s Reese Larramendy at 148, Dasia Yearby of South Carolina at 172, who defeated Canadian Pan Am bronze medalist Vianne Rouleau in the finals, and #2 ranked Isabeau Shalack of Illinois at 225.

There were notable upsets everywhere as well, including the following:

115 semi: AWW #11 Ava Bayless of PA upset #1 Junior Fargo champ Montana Delawder of PA 12-5.

123 pounds: AWW #13 Jaclyn Dehney of New Hampshire beat #3 Leilah Castro of Ohio 4-2.
